Product Description | The first fossil of Ceratosaurus was found in 1883. The genus was given its name in 1884, meaning something like "horn saurian", when the renowned professor Othniel Charles Marsh named the type species Ceratosaurus nasicornis. Later another six species were named in the genus. We now know that it also concerns C. nasicornis or completely different dinosaurs. That makes Ceratosaurus nasicornis the one and only species of the genus. Five fairly complete skeletons of C. nasicornis have been found. This gave the scientists a good picture of the structure of the animal. Ceratosaurus is one of the more famous dinosaurs as it was often mentioned and illustrated in popular science books. He has also been featured in novels, feature films and documentaries. |
