Product Description | The type species Stygimoloch spinifer was named and described in 1983 by Peter Malcolm Galton and Hans-Dieter Sues. The genus name means: "devil of the Styx", from the Hebrew juggernaut, "demon", a reference to the Hell Creek formation where the fossil was found and the diabolical "fierce" appearance that the animal forms. The species name means "thorn-bearing" in Latin and refers to the spines at the back of the skull. |
